SHIPPING NOTES.An acute shortage of trucks delayed work at Lyttelton yesterday. Difficulty was even experienced in obtaining trucks into which to discharge fruit from tho Waipiata. The shortage was not due to any delay at the Lyttelton end, but is stated to be » result of the working of the new yard at MiddleThe Holmdale is due this morning from Wellington, and is to sail this afternoon, taking cargo for Duncdin and Oamaru. The Cygnet is due early this morning from Kaikoura and Wellington, and is to sail on the return trip to-night. ....... The Kotiti is to be dispatched this afternoon with cargo for Kaikoura. The Tees was an expected arrival from the Chatham Islands during last Bight. Sha is to sail to-day for the Chatham Islands, via Wellington. The Parera should arrive to-morrow evening from Gisborne. Mr R, E. Suckling, second officer of the Karetu, has been granted holidays, and his place has been taken by Mr R. 0. Ingram, Mr H. W. Jones having joined the Komata as second officer. Captain J. L. Brisco has transferred. from command of the K&imai to the Kaitangata, relieving Captain A. S. Dalgliesh for holidays. i
Cabled news has been received by the New Zealand Shipping Company that their liner Rotorua arrived at Panama on December Ist from Wellington, en route to Southampton and London. The vessel left Wellington on November 10th. According to cabled advice received by the New Zealand Shipping Company, the Cydonia left Sydney (Cape Breton) 'on November 30th, in continuation of her voyage from Montreal to New Zealand and Australia, via Newport News. A wireless message was received by the New Zealand Shipping Company from the Hororata,- en route from London and Southampton, stating that the vessel would arrive at Auckland at 7 o'clock last night. She is expected at Wellington a week later. A message has been received by the New Zealand Shipping Company stating that the Gisla left Panama on November 16th for New Zealand and Australia, on route from Montreal and Newport News. The vessel is due at Auckland about December 12th, and at Wellington a week later. Cabled news has been received by the Federal Company that the Huntingdon arrived at Panama on November 28th from Liverpool, and saiiod again on November 29th for Auckland, Wellington, Lyttelton, and Port Chalmers. Tho vessel is due at Auckland about Decomber 22nd. The Canadian Government Agency advise that the Canadian Challenger will leave Halifax on December 04th for Auckland, Wellington, Lyttelton, Timaru, and Dunedin. The Canadian Highlander (in placo of the Canadian Scottish) will sail from Halifax on January 25th for Auckland, Wellington, Lyttelton, Timaru, and Dunedin.

NEW PORT FOR TEXAS. An arm of the Gulf of Mexico, called the Arroyo Colorado, which extends Inland about 25 miles to Hnrlingen, in Texas, is to be dredged and deepened so as to admit oceangoing steamships, and a deep-water port is to be created at Harlingen (reports the "Shipping World"). The project was assured by the voting of 500,000 dollars of bonds for the dredging work and the creating of the Arroyo Colorado navigation district. A request will be made for a Federal appropriation of 500,000 dollars. Tho total sum of 1,000,000 dollars will be sufficient, according to engineers. Both the Southern Pacific and the Missouri Pacific railway systems have lines into Harlingen, and nre lending assistance to tho deep-water project.
THE NEW LAURENTIC. The new steamship Laurent! o was launched recently at Belfast, and will be operated in the White Star Line fleet. Tho Laurentic is the second ship of that name, the first having been sunk during the war. The new ship is of 18,700 tons gross. She w3b designed for the St. Lawrence river trade, but is also adapted to winter cruising and will make her first voyage in January, on a cruise from New York to the Mediterranean. After two crnises to these waters she will enter the Montreal-Liverpool service in the spring of 1928. The ship is of the cabin class, with accommodation for third class and tourist third cabin, and a total passenger carrying capacity of 1600. The Laurentic is a triple-screw ship, 604 feet in length, 75 feet beam, and will have a speed of 16i knots.
