CARDIFF BEATEN.

WARATAH PLAYER SENT OFF. A HARD GAME. (BY CABLE—PBESS ASSOCIATION—COrIRIQHT.) (AUSTRALIAN AND N.Z. ASD SVN CABLE.) (Received December 4th, 5.5 p.m.) LONDON, December 3. The Waratahs defeated Cardiff by 15 points to 9. Tho referee sent off Jack Ford in tho second half. Twenty thousand people witnessed the match at Cardiff, where the weather was dull. Cardiff were early ahead, Maile kicking a penalty goal in the first few minutes. J. Ford then scored a try, which Lawton converted, and the latter afterwards increased tho Waratahs' lead wih a dropped goal. After the interval, Cardiff obtained another penalty goal and an unconverted try. It was at this time that a _ sensation was caused by J. Ford being sent off tbo field, apparently for disputing the referee's ruling. Cardiffites appealed for Ford to be allowed to remain, but the referee (Mr Huntley) was adamant, and the player left the field. With only fourteen men the Waratahs won a thrilling game when Towers and Tarleton scored unconverted tries after most spectacular handling by the forwards and bocks. It was a great finish to a magnificent game. Tho Watratahs had to fight, and it was their clever combination that turned the game in their favour. The referee's decision followed a melee near Cardiff's posts. A moment before one of the Waratahs had gone over the lino with several Cardiffites. but was recalled, and a scnim ordered. Then Ford was ordered off. The newspapers recall the similar sensational dismal of Cyril Brownlie, the famous All Black.
