Mr B. B. Wood arrived from tho .North Island by yesterday's ferry. Mr R. B. Hammond, Director of Town Planning, arrived from Wellington yesterday. Dr. T. G. Gray (Wellington), Deputy-[nspector-General of Mental Hospitals, i.s staying at the United Service Hotel. The following guests are registered at the CI arendon: Messrs J. ToupNieholas (Ward), D. Bishop (Wellington). Mr Win. Spencc, district manager of the Government Life Insurance Department, has been transferred on promotion to head office. He will leave for the north on Monday, his place at Christchurch being taken by Mr A. P. King, of head office. Mr T. Vernon Griffith, M.A.. Mas. Bac\, Cambridge, lias been appointed organist and choirmaster of St. Michael's Church, Oxford terrace. Mr Griffith has had considerable experience in the training of church choirs and conducting congregational practices in the Old Country. Mr P. C. Dwyer. Assistant District Public Trustee of*the Public Trust Office, Christchurch, who has been appointed Assistant District Public Trustee at Dunedin was met by the local staff, when a presentation of a Damascus trav and cigarette casket was made by Mr A. Tt. Jordan, the District Public Trustee. Captain S. G. Stringer, who has retired after nearly 21 years of service with the Marine Department, during seven n f whieh lie was Superintendent of Mercantile Marine at Wellington, was vosterday ir:et hv tho officers of thf» Department.
