A POOR BOX.

AT THE MAGISTRATE'S COURT. For some years there lias stood, in disuse, in the room of the clerk of the Magistrate's Court, a small wooden box, with the words "Poor 1305," printed in white on the lid. This is to be brought out of its long resting place and put to practical use. Certain benevolent people have made contributions towards a fund, which will be disposed of by the Clerk of the Court, at the direction of the Magistrate for deserving cases, which may come under his notice. The "poor box'' will come into full operation immediately, indeed, a defendant was ordered to contribute 10s towards its contents during the last few days.
