RAILWAY GUARD INJURED.

FALL FROM A TRAIN. (rBES9 18S0CUTIOH TZLIOBAU.) DUNEDIN, December 2. A railway guard named John Crawford, aged 58, residing at 14 Alma street, St. Kilda, was admitted to hospital at 6.45 o'clock this evening, suffering from injuries received from falling off a train.

Anxiety was caused among police officials to-day by the disappearance of Robert James Brydon, an habitual criminal, and a prisoner at Mt. Eden Gaol, from Auckland Hospital, where he had been sent by the prison authorities for treatment to a crushed foot. He disappeared this morning, and a thorough search was maintained throughout the day. Finally, Brydon was discovered at Onchunga about 8.30 this evening, and taken into custody. Brydon was undergoing four years sentence at gaol for theft and forgery. Some time ago he crushed his foot, and regularly he had been attending tho hospital on crutches for medical treatment, and had been given considerable freedom. Ho managed to get well away from tho hospital before his absence was noticed.
