"THE FARMERS'."
RECENT IMI MOVEMENTS. Members of the Board of Directors of the New Zealand Farmers' Co-op. Association, of Canterbury, Ltd., heads of departments, and other guests were entertained at a dinner last evening in the Association's restaurant to mark the completion of the extensive alterations to the premises. The improvements were inspected by the party. When the guests adjourned to the lounge a short toast list was honoured. After the loyal toast Mr John MacGibbon proposed that of the Association.
Mr Arnaud McKellar presented Mr James Sterer.-on, chairman of directors, with an enlarged photograph of himself, to be hung in the Board room. Mr McKellar said that Mr Stevenson's tactful way had welded together conflicting factions on the Board of Directors, and he felt the Association was entering on a new era of prosperity. Mr C. P. Agar proposed the toast of "The Architects and Contractor." Messrs B. J. Ager and W. Williamson responded. In proposing the toast of Mr W. G. C. Beumelburg, Mr W. Machin, general manager, referred to his 44 years' service with the Association. He extended a welcome to four new members of the staff, Mrs Cox (manageress of the restaurant), Mr H. Free (floor superintendent), Mr Stewart (in charge of the hardware department), and Mr F. T. Ager (assistant manager of the Ftangiora branch). Instrumental and vocal items were rendered by Mesdames J. Smith and W. Machin, Miss M. Norton, and Messrs J. Smith and Frank Morrison.
