BIG DEFALCATIONS ALLEGED.

COURT.

(press association telegeam.) AUCKLAND, December 1,

Defalcations amounting to £IOOO w.ere alleged in the Police Court today, when an employee in the Customs Department in Auckland was charged with stealing £lO 12s Bd, the property of the Department. Chief-Detective Cummings asked for a remand until December loth. Accused, who had been arrested the previous day, was married, and had two children. He had been suspended from his employment. Chief-Detective Cummings said the total amount of £IOOO was involved.

The Magistrate, Mr McKean, remanded the accused as requested, and an application for the suppression of the accused's name was granted. Bail was fixed at £3OO.
