UNEMPLOYMENT INSURANCE.
BILL BEFORE COMMONS
(BY CABLE—PEZBS ASSOCIATION—COPTMGHT.) (AUSTRALIAN AND NZ CABLE ASSOCIATION)
(Received December Ist, 8.5 p.m.)
LONDON, December 1
In the House of Commons, the Government made a surprising move by tabling a motion for the application of guillotine in the Unemployment Insurance Bill debate allocating three days for the remainder of the Committee stage, a day for the report, and a day for the third reading. Mr Shaw, on behalf of the Labour Party, tabled an amendment declining to assent to a limitation of the debate on a Bill which would deprive thousands of insurance benefits.
The House, with the Government's assent, reduced the contributions which disabled ex-servicemen are required to make before participation in the benefits to one-third of that paid by ordinary workers. Clause 5 was carried, and the debate adjourned.
