RAILWAY RETURN. In a return compiled l* the Railway Department for November, figures are given which show that the Carnival Week traffic was an improvement on that in 1926. The number of passengers booked in the northern district (north of Tinwald) from November 3rd to 12th. to Christchurcli. wiilW is compared with 13,088 in 1926, and l6 The 7 'nuSer of holiday excursion tickets included in the above» was 490T, the total in 1936 being 5273, and in 19ij 5631. ol • + 'Passengers carried between Christchurch and the Riccarton racecourse on the four days on which races were run totalled 6968, 131 more than in 1926. Bv the clectrio car 1580 travelled between Christchurch and the Show Grounds, in 1927, for the Royal Show, the total in 192<3 being 1161.
