COMMUNISM IN THE EAST.
SOVIET'S ACTIVITIES. PROPAGANDA IN THE DUTCH INDIES. (by CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COFTRianT.) (Stdnei "Sun" Sebyics.) (Received November 30th, 7.30 p.m.) LONDON, November 30. Sir Percival Phillips, in an article in the "Daily Mail," declares that the. Soviet's conspiracy to Bolsheviso Asia includes a resolute attack on the security of the Dutch East Indies. The surrender of Java and Sumatra to Bolshevism, he says, would tremendously affect the Eastern mind, and supply an important strategic baso for a campaign against tho British Empire. After reviewing tho operations of tho Dutch Communist, Sneovliet, and a native Communist, Samaoons, which resulted in strikes and armed outbreaks in 1926 and 1927, the latter ending with three executions and many imprisonments and deportations, Sir Percival Phillips discloses that Dachlan, a native medical student, and Samaoon's successor, described a plan for seizing Batavia, establishing a reign of terror, and killing officials. Tho recent rising in Bandoeng was a futile farce, and secrecy is now superseding open tactics, which have failed owing to tho unexpected energy of tho Dutch authorities. The Bolsheviks are exploiting propagandist avenues in Holland, Mecca, and China. Some success has been aehioved in Java and more in Sourabaya. An Indonesian National Party has been formed in Bandoeng in order to throw off Dutch rule, and a kindred body is tho "League to combat Imperialism." Thiß League has its headquarters in Paris, and a member of the- House of Commons, Mr Fenner Brockway, is a member of this League, and was appointed to a deputation to visit Java and enquire into the alleged persecution of natives by tho Dutch. Another member of the House of Commons, Mr Mardy Jones, is also a member. Revolutionary activities in Mecca led Ibn Saud to deport numbers of Dutch and Indian Communists.
