In the Sheffield Shield match, Queensland, in their first innings, made 419 (Rowe, not out, 128, Amos 23). Bowling for New South Wales, Everett took two for 32 Jordan two for 77, Morgan two for 44, and Phillips two for 11. New South Wales nave lost seven wickets for 131 (Kippax 27, Wateon 32, Oldfield 22, Everett, not out, 19). The weather was fine after heavy rain, The actual pitch had been covered, and was in good condition, but round the edges and, the outfield was heavy and slow. The remainder of the Queenslanders were quickly disposed of. Rowe earned an ovation for his fine not out three-flgure innings. New South Wales opened sensationally, their first four wickets falling for I<, Hornibrook and Hurwood taking every advantage of the pitch and doing great execution. Kippax and WatniV^ pped tlie rot for a tim °. and Oldfield made a good showing but otherwise the visitors proved a n easy prey to the bowlers. New South Wales are m an unfortunate position, as under the rules play must end after two hours' play on Thursday morning.
