COUNTY COUNCILS.
WAIPARA. At the last "meeting of the Waipar* County Council, there were present: Cm. N. D. Campbell (chairman), D. J. Doak, J. Quigley, and E. S. Taylor. Apologies for absence were received from Crs. H. T. Little and A. T. Allan. The Works Committee reported that the contractor was making good progress on the Happy Valley road; maintenance work was being continued on the Main Cheviot road, metal being spread near Spye, and the improvement to the Omihi Saddle had been commenced. Good progress wag being made with the work on the WaiparaKaikoura Main Highway. It was recommended that tenders be called for the metalling of the Beach road. Plans of the Lankey Cutting bridge over the Waitohi river had been forwarded to the Publio Works Department for approval. A letter was to hand from tho Amuri County Council regarding the proposed Electric Power Board, and a conference to discuss hospital levies. The Commissioner of Crown Lands wrote regarding the Horsley Down water-race. The clerk was instructed to give public notice that an additional 10 per cent., would be added to all rates unpaid after January 9th, im It was decided to metal the Park View road, Waikari Plat road, and patch the Lake Sumner (Gorge) road.
