TEMPERANCE UNION.
ANNUAL MEETING. Tho annual moeting of the North Brighton Young People's Christian Temperance Union was held at Mrs Leaver's home on Monday evening. Mr;; J. F. Eames presided over a large attendance of members. The secretary reported that on behalf of tho Union she had sent a telegram to Mr D. G. Sullivan, M.P., protesting against the sixyearly poll and 55-45 majority proposed in the Licensing Bill, and that a most satisfactory reply had been received from Mr Sullivan. The secretary submitted the annual report, giving an outline of the year's activities, and showing the Union to be in a' most flourishing state. The treasurer's report was also read, and the financial position was reported to be most satisfactory. On behalf of the Union Mrs Eames presented the "Y" Superintendent, Mrs Leaver, with a bouquet of cream roses, and thanked her for her hospitality during tho year The following were elected officers for the ensuing year:—President, Mrs J. F. Eames; vice-president, Misses I. Thompson and I. Leaver; secretary, Miss M. Norrie; treasurer, Miss B. Scott; White Ribbon correspondent, Miss I. Aston; Press correspondent, Miss .1 Leaver; peace and arbitration department. Miss H. Williams; legal and. ParI liamentary department. Miss Estelle Cook; devotional superintendent, Miss B. Norrie. The Union decided to undertake the work of visiting lonely patients in the hospitals and the sick in the district. Miss Colvjn Aston was appointed superintendent of this department. It was decided to start a Birthday League, and Mr A. Florence was appointed to take charge of this League.
