WAIMAIRI COUNTY COUNCIL AND RICCARTON BOROUGH.
TO THE EDITOR or THE PBISS. Sir,—l note that although Mr Kitson has published such startling figures showing the increase in rates, should we join up with the Iliccarton Borough, ho is keen to support them as shown by his acceptance of my suggestion that a public debate- should be arranged by those of the Iliccarton Borough Council and the Waimairi County Council. Mr Manhire in his lottor in The Press this morning says that he is not interested, other than to give information (and correct information at that), but apparently any information he has already given cannot bo relied on as ho admits he has yet to receive valuations concerning this area. The canvasser for the petition, among other statements, told mo that Mr Manhire, Mayor of Riccarton, had drawn up tho petition, and was amdous for our inclusion in the borough. I therefore appeal to Mr Manhire to accept the offer of a public debato so as to enable the ratepayers concerned to judge for themselves the wisdom of accepting the various statements of the canvasser of the petition, and also the wisdom of joining; tho borough or remaining as we are. T feel certain Mr Manhire does not wish us to be under any false impression, and would prefer to let us judge for ourselves after hearing what promises to be an interesting debate on the question.—Y'ours, etc., INTERESTED RATEPAYER. Christchurch, November 2sth.
