At the annuai meeting of the English, Scottish, and Australian Bank, Ltd., Mr Andrew Williamson, who presided, referred with satisfaction to the purchase of the Royal Bank of Australia, Ltd., whereby the E.S. and A. Bank had acquired a fine business, which it should he ablo to further profitably develop. Although no further amalgamation was in P ros / pect, the E.S. and A. Bank's steadily expanding business rendered it desirable that the board should be in a position to take advantage of opportunities for expansion as they arrive. Therefore, the board of directors recommend shareholders to empower them to increase the capital of the bank from time to time to £8,000,000, as occasion may arise.
P. AND O. NEW ISSUE. A meeting of shareholders of the Peninsular and Oriental Steam Navigation Company has approved of the issue of new capital to both preferred and deferred shareholders. A recent proposal for an increase in capital provided for the creation of £1,000,000 of additional deferred stock, to be issued at £2OO for each £IOO worth of stock.
