FIRES.
BLAZE AT OXFORD." A fire occurred in Oxford yesterday morning by which the extensive workshop, timber stack, and plant of Mr J. A. Scarfl, builder, were totally destroyed. At the time Mr Scarff was working in the shop with the planing machine, when the engine backfired. Notwithstanding the promptest airtion on the part of Mr Scarff the buildings were soon a mass of flames. It was hoped to bo able to save the timber stacks, but a temporary change of wind brought the fire to them, and efforts to save them were fruitless. The fire worked so rapidly that very little could be removed. Mr Scarff had but recently bought the property from the estate 'of the late T. L. Gainsford. DWELLING DESTROYED.
