Mr A. L. M. Berry has accepted a position as resident master at, the Wanganui Collegiate School, and will take up his duties early in February.

Among the guests at the Clarendon Hotel are: Messrs A. G. McDonald (Auckland), J. R. Hunt (Gisborne), and G. Mcßoath (Dunedin). Mr F. Milner, Rector of the Waitaki Boys' High School, Oamaru, is at present visiting Christchurch, and is staying at the Clarendon Hotel.

Recent arrivals at Warner's Hotel include: Messrs H. N. Stokes (London), R. C. Grigsby (Auckland), W. G. Creedy (Wellington), and J. H. W. Mcjßeorgo (Hokitika).

Dr. Wilkinson has been appointed as house surgeon at the Christchurch Hospital, specialising in ear, nose, and throat complaints, and Dr. Cotton has been appointed to the resident staff for a second year. , Mr J. D. Hall, the president of the North Canterbury district of the.New Zealand Farmers' Union, has been appointed to speak on behalf of the district at the farmers' meeting with the Hon. Mr Amery, during his visit to Christchurch.

At a special meeting last night, Mr John Bishop, of London, was appointed conductor of the Royal Wellington Choral Society for 1928. Mr Bishop was born in South Australia, and has studied under noted musical teachers in Europe and in London. He is at present conductor of the Derby Orchestral Society.—Press Association. Mr C. J. Oliver, the New Zealand cricket representative, was the guest of honour at a social held last night in Jellicoe Hall. Mr W. B. Fuller presided in the absence of the president of the Merivale Football Club Mr Oliver was welcomed back to New Zealand during an interlude in the dancing. Congratulations and greetings to three veterans of the Presbyterian Church were expressed by the General Assembly yesterday. The subjects of the motion were the Rev, George Brown (aged 97), the Rev. John Riley faced o'i>, and Mr Dnnr-an MoPherson. who celebrated his 88th birthday on Tuesday and who was a city missioner in Auckland.

At the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of New Zealand yesterday, reference was made by the Rev. J. Paterson to the pnssiiijr of several ministers of the Church, and tin Assembly expressed its regret at the losses and sympathy with the relatives. The deceased ministers referred to were the Revs. J. A. Brown, J. J. Knripht, .1. Holmes, A. Laishley, N. McCnllum, and R. M. G. McDowall. At the monthly meeting of the N>rth Canterbury Hospital Board yesterday a report was received from the Hospital Commit..ee in which the appointment of Dr. J. K. Davidson as assis tant medina superintendent was recommended, and the recommendation was adopted. Dr. Davidson was house surgeon at the hospital in 1924 and has since been in institutions in England. Ho i<! expected to arrive in New earlv next year.
