HOSPITAL BOARD.

♦ MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly, meeting of the North Canterbury Hospital Board was held yesterday. Mr F. Horrell presided, and thero were also presont Mosdames A. E. Herbert, E. McCombs, L. Green, Messrs W. J. Walter, H. H. Holland, W. P. Spencer, A. T. Smith, H. J. Otley, 0. Carr, L. B. Evans, G. Armstrong, H. R. Davison, D. McMillan, Dr. P. S. Foster, and Dr. H. T. D. Acland. . The following departmental reports were adopted:— It was reported that the average daily number of patients in tho Hospital during October was 391. In tho Venereal Diseases Department there were 1190 attendances, representing 259 pationtß, 38 of whom were new. , . _ , . In the Dental Department during. October the total number of operations was 1421, patients supplied with artificial dentures numbered 59, the total number of attendances was 167G, and tho number of fresh patients examined was 349. Thirty-one new patients were accepted for treatment in the Radium and Deep Therapy Department, of whom eight were suffering from malignant disease. Thirty-five treatments with radium and sixty with deep X-rays were given; 217 ultra-violet treatments were given. The total attendance for the month was 383. Nino postal reports were received, and fifty ex-patients reported in person. Radium was taken out'of the Hospital on four occasions. The Public Health Committee reported that most of the infectious diseases during October were cases of scarlet fever and tuberculosis. It was most unusual for scarlet fever to be in a predominant position at this time of the year. It was anticipated that it would probably dio down as rapidly as it arose. The number of cases dealt with m tho Infectious Diseases Hospital during October was 114, comprising:—Scarlet fever, 83; dipththeria, 11; measles, 12; mumps, 1; sundries, 7. October was a particularly busy month at the Infectious Diseases HosDuring the month thero were 230 attendances at the Dispensary, of -whom 65 wore soldiers, and were seen by Dr, Aitken. Of the remainder, 55 were new cases. Thirtyfive new cases' were notified. Tho nurso paid 29 visits .to patients in their own The' Medical Superintendent of the Upper Sanatorium reported that on October 31st 100 patients were in residence, and tour were on the waiting list. There were 74 attendances at tho out-patients department during October.
