CRYSTAL PALACE.
Rarely has the public of Christchurch had put before it such a programme of funmaking as is being presented at tho Crystal Palace this week. There are comedies—and coniedios: some funny, and some not. "Painting the Town." which heads the bill, is a fine all-round production. It is unquestionably one of tho most mirth-provoking comedies ever . screened in Christchurch, and has an added interest in that it introduces a comedian new to the screen—one who gives every promise of becoming one of the greatest if no actually tho greatest, of screen comedians of the day Tho newcomer is Glenn Tryon, a youthful star who ha. a style refreshingly ong.nal and with a total absence of. anything suggesting "staciness." In everything ho does ho " g S o natural and unaffected that it is impossible to restrain one's lighter and some ,* w,q nrinks are as clever as auything jet g by its most, famous m.rlh. makers The story underlying. Painting Z Town" concerna a young man who considers himself an inventive genius. With a new motoTcar of his own design he invades New York and endeavours to .secure a big Contract with the Fire Commissioner. The Sable "villain" makes desperate efforts "o prevent the deal going through but men triumohs in the ong run and the youthful inontor's efforts are crowned with success. The second attraction, "Rubber Heels, ■deal ?g with the activities of a ''detective graduated from one ot the numerous American correspondence schools.
