December 17—Oamaru J.O. (at Wingatui). TROTTING FIXTURES. November 23 —Otahuhu T.C. Spring (second day)- . ™ „ „ . November 25, 26—Forbury Park T.C. Spring. December 17—Onmarn J.O. (two events). December 26—Gore T.C. Annual. TURF GOSSIP Nominations for the Dunedin Joe**, Club's Summer Meeting are due on Friday. Acceptances for the Feilding Jockey Club's Meeting will close on Friday. Final payments for the Feilding Stakes are due at the same time. Rascal, purchased some months ago from Mr J D. Ormond, Hawke's Bay, by Mr G. F. Drury. has again changed hands, the purchaser being Mr T. C. Robinson. Rascal will remain in R. Longlcy's stable at Riccarton. Volant has been turned out for a lengthy spell. The Ashburton-Pohangina Racing Club's Annual Meeting will be held to-day and the good acceptances received give promise of good racing. Mister Gamp showed considerable promise as a hurdler at the Levin Meeting on Saturday, and he should run a good race in the Hurdles today. Vexatious looks his most formidable opponent. Arrow Lad has a lot of speed and the Pohangina Handicap should find him well to the fore, while the return to form shown by Mireusonta on Saturday last looks promising. Vast Acre should be one of the wellfancied division in the Siberia Handicap, and Grey Mist is one of tho poskibles engaged. Rowley's form at Riccarton earlier in the month was good enough to suggest his having a chance in the Ashhurst Cup, in which race Waicullus also looks a possibility. Archon and Kalos are more than useful, especially the latter, who should Lave a rare chanco in the Komaka Hack Handicap, while in the Manawatu Gorge Handicap, Henna on Levin forms looks a possibility. Horomea is a smart sprinter who way find the distance of the Raumai Handicap to his liking, and in the Maiden Stakes Broad Acre and Shining Star read the best. Although the trial grass track wao open, training operations at Ricoarton yesterday were not of much interest. Most of the horses who raced at the recent Meeting have resumed work, but in the meantime they aro being given only useful tasks. Those who are to race at the South Canterbury Meeting next week will be striding along in strong work in a day or two, but others, who will not be required until the holiday Moftiings, will not require to be hurried. For the benefit of horses who are going to Auckland for the Christmas Meeting at Ellerslie, the Riccarton tracks will be reserved for half an hour each morning, during the next few •weeks, for working the reverse way. P. V. Mason was the only trainer who took advantage of the special arrangement yesterday, but he confined all his team to steady work on the plough. The other trainers who contemplate racing their teams at the Auckland Meeting will pmbablv commence working tho reverse way later on this woek. Rapid Rose and Diana's Lad were schooled over the pony hurdles at Riccarton yesterday and later on Diana's Lad jumped four of the big hurdles. He shows considerable aptitude for a novice. Oriflamb (E. Shaw) was schooled over four hurdles yesterday, and, save for getting a trifle too close in at the last flight, he gave a good exhibition of jumping. Rapier is in steady work again and looks in the best of health. The Auckland Cup will be his next engagement, and his name is being freely discussed in connexion with that race. T. H. Gillett is keening Count Cavour and Satrap to useful work at present, but soon they will be moving along a bit faster, in view of Auckland engagements. Both these h<srses should be at their best by Boxing Day. Front Rank is striding along in useful tasks at present. After racing nt the South Canterbury Meeting next week, she will be got ready for a trip to Auckland in company with Centrepiece and Childsplay Footfall and Paperchasc, who will represent Mr C. G. Dalgety at the Auckland Meeting, look well after their recent racing. G. J. Pine is not hurrying his team much at present, but they all look well. Paper Bny and Don Jose will probably ho raced at Auckland during the holidays.

F. Christina* intends to race Martarma at the South Canterbury Meeting, where he is engaged in moderate company. The Martian rolt will then be kept going in view of more important events at Auckland, including the Great Northern Derby. The Kilbroney gelding Bolero has gone uorth to be trained at Auapuni by G. New. So far he has no form to recommend him, though he has shown fair pace on the tracks. A. E. Ellis is now one of the regular attendants at the Riccarton tracks during training hours. He is going north to ride at the Feilding Meeting next week, but he will return in time for engagements at South Canterbury. 'Jo carry out this programme will necessitate some rapid travelling. TROTTING NOTES.

Nominations for all handicap events at the Auckland Trotting Club's Summer Meeting and first forfeits for the 1928 Great Northern Trotting Derby close with the secretary of the Auckland Trotting Club at 5 p.m. on Friday. Nominations for the New Brighton Trotting Club's Summer Meeting clo.-. tc-morrow at noon.

The Otahuhu Trotting Club's Spring Meeting will be concluded to-day, and though the acceptances in several of the races to bo decided are not up to the average in class or numbers, there is still material for interesting racing. South Island interests will centre in the effort of Cardinal Logan in the Fergusson Handicap, and Daytime in the Franklin Uand'cap,' both of which will be driven by A. Hendriksen Evidently the handicaps allotted were not appreciated by R B. Berry, trainer of Joan McElwyn and Sea Pearl, for both have been allowed to forfeit their engagements. So far as the principal event is concerned, the two Auckland horses, Jewel Pointer and Black Lila, are particularly well treated if a line is to be taken on recent performances. At Addington Jewel Pointer won from a 4.29 mark after having done 4.28 2-6 in running second previously at the Meeting and on the first day at Otahuhu again started off 4.29. He also won on this occasion and is now handicapped on 4.28. Black Lila, who finished second to Jewel Pointer and beat Cardinal Logan and Sea Pearl, was set to meet the latter pair on the same terms. The handieapper, Mr C. E. Gooseman, has taken a distinct liberty with Jewel Pointer and prob ably this is the reason why such a small acceptance was received. Racing will commence with the Innovation Handicap, a two-mile race for unhoppled trotters. Roez, who won the slow class trotters' race on the first day off the limit, is now back to 108 yds behind, while Anseline, who ran second, has gone back but 12yds and Bright Light, who was third, is still on the Fame mark. Bright Light and Anseline should again get a share of the prize money and Peter Tracey nay be the best of the remainde

Hohora and Dillon Huon were fancied by their connexions for the Mangere Handicap on Saturday, and the latter went a really good race over a mile and a quarter. Probably the mile and a half in the Epsom Handicap will suit both a good deal better and they should be hard to dispose of. Golden Grattan, a six-year-old mare by Gold Bell—Grattan Maid, had been doing pleasing work on the Auckland tracks previous to the Otahuhu Meeting and she is expected to play a prominent part in the dicision of the Papatoetoe Handicap in which the class engaged is not particularly good. Tony Victor on 24yds and Anseline scr may cause most opposition. Although Cardinal Logan has nothing the better of the handicap as compared with Jewel Pointer and Black Lila, he will probably be sent out favourite in the Fergusson Handicap. Again the most serious opposition may be expected from Jewel Pointer, who will be bracketed with Amaris.

There should be a good race in the Franklin Handicap, and if Nelson Fame is anything of a stayer he should o° hard to beat. Uncle Bert and Nelson Tasker should be the best of the remainder. The small field in the Visitors' Handicap should give the backmarkers, Tradesman and Sister Beatrice, a good opportunity and Ngatira may be the ciost troublesome to this pair.

If Nelson Fame is reserved for the Dunedin Handicap of one mile, he should be in the firing line at the finish, but Amaris, who is also engaged in the big race, may prove equal to the task at the handicaps allotted-

The Royal Handicap of one and a quarter miles will see a good lot of sprinters in action, and Scandal on 24yds may be quite capable of repeating her first day's performance. Padlock and Ruapere look the most likely of the remainder.
