WAIMAIRI COUNTY ROADS.
TO TH* ■DITOB 0» TK» PBESS. Sir—l have read with interest the discussion in the Waimairi County Council reported in your columns today regarding the petition which is being circulated in a portion of the Wnimairi County adjoining the Riccarton borough, to the east of Clyde road and the south of the stream. Really, the Waimairi Councillors are \oo funny for words. Let them stay in their own glasshouses and not throw stones at the Riccarton roads. Everyone in the district knows that the Riccarton roads hare been in rather a bad way 6ince the sewer contractors have been operate ing in the district, but that will pass very soon. It is but one of the grow-ing-pains incidental to the progress of the district, and one which parts of Wnimairi will have to go through soon. The Waimairi Councillors are the very last people that should comment on anyone else's roads—there has been enough dirty linen washed over Fendalton and other roads in the district lately to stock a good-sized laundry. 1 hope Cr. Kitson has found his missing roads by now. I have it on good authority from residents of the district affected that the petition originated with the residents themselves, and not with the Mayor of Riccarton, and that it is being circulated bv several residents who desire to obtain the benefit of a lower rate, and better municipal facilities. Fendalton has been the milch-cow of Waimairi County long enough, and the residents have been heavily rated to pav for the upkeep of country roads in Stvx and Burwood. One expects Councillors to tear their hair at the prospect of losing their best ratepayers, but the change is bound to come, and the district will be absorbed by Riccarton as other parts of the county have been from time to time.—Yours, etc., RICCARTON RATEPAYER.
