KALGOORLIE MURDERS
CLARKE REFUSED REWARD. (BT CABIjB—PRESS ASSOCIATION— COPTRIOHT.) (AUBTBALIAN AND K.Z CASLK ASSOCIATION.) (Received November 22nd, 11.45 p.m.) . SYDNEY, November 23. In August last the Full Court granted a reward of £IOOO offered by the West Australian Government to Evan Clarke, who turned King's evidence at the trial of Qoulter and Trcffcne for the murder of two detectives at Kalgoorlie last year. The Crown appealed to tho High Court, which to-day ruled that Clarke was not entitled! to the reward on the ground that he was acting exclusively to clear himself, and not for tho sake of justice or from any impulse of conscience. N.S.W. RAILWAYS. ♦ ECONOMY CAMPAIGN. (Received November 22nd, 9.55 p.m.) SYDNEY, No/ember 22. In view of the ruilway deficit, Cabinet has decided to increase fares in U>« city and suburban railways and tramways from December Ist. There will be no increase in freights, and it is not likely that there will be any increases in country fares.
