In the House of Commons the whole evening was occupied in committee on the Unemployed Insurance Bill, to which the Labour members had tabled ten' pages of amendments. AH the Opposition was based on the view that a reduction of unemployment benefits will inevitably result in the unemployed being forced to seek poor law relief. Finally the closure was moved, and a clause was carried by 224 votes to 137-
