—•— Mr F. H. Dodge is leaving by car this morning for the West Coast. Mr J. T. O'JBoyle , Lakeside, who underwent an operation in Lewisham Hospital last Thursday, is progressing favourably. Dr. T. Fletcher Telford, Medical Officer of Health, left on Saturday for the West Coast, and will be absent, for most of the present week. Mr R. M. Brasted, National Secretary for the Y.M.C.A., is at present in Christchurch, and will return ,to Wellington on Thursday night, Messrs D. J. Richardson (Wellington), W. A. Hislop (Wellington), J. Scott (Dunedin), A. N. Silcock (Dunedin), and R. S. Lawson (London) are among the recent arrivals at the United Service Hotel. An interested visitor at last night's meeting of the City Council was Cr. A. J. Entrican, Deputy-Mayor .of Auckland, who was briefly welcomed by the Mayor (Mr J. K. Archer). At last night's meeting of the City Council, Mr E. J. Carroll, a sanitary inspector, was granted permission to attend the annual conference of New Zealand Sanitary Inspectors, to be held at Napier from January 23rd to January 27th next. . Mr W. C. Ward, Acting-Engineer in Forest Products of the State Forest Service, is at present in Christchurch on a tour of the South Island investigating the question of a unigrading and classification system of New Zealand timbers. Although not officiallv announced it is understood that Colonel J H. Whyte, D.5.0., D.C.M., will succeed Colonel-Commandant C. G Powles, C.M.G., D.5.0., as Colonel-Command-ant of the central command, Colonel Whyte at present is attached to the central command.—Press Association. Mr Joseph Hislop, the famous tenor, will arrive in Christchurch this morning. He will be accompanied by the solo pianist, Mr Alberto Sciarretti. They will stay at the United Service Hotel. Mr Hislop will commence his concert season in the Theatre Royal this evening. The ordination of Mr A. C. Whitelaw, LL.B. (Auckland), at the Presbyterian Assembly last night was led by the Moderator (the Rt. Rev. J. Aitken), those associated with him being the following ex-Moderators:—Dr. J. Cumming, Dr. R. Erwin, the Revs. A. Don, G. Miller, J. A. Asher, G. McNeur, R. M. Eyburn, W. J. Comrie, and J. H. MacKenzie.
