ESCAPE OF GAS.
* ELDERLY COUPLE IN SERIOUS CONDITION. (rEEBS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.) AUCKLAND, November 21. Escaping gas in a bedroom almost poisoned James Lawson Morrison, aged 73, and his wife, aged 74, who were admitted to hospital in a serious and unconscious condition. They had assisted a brother-in-law to move, and being kept till 2 a.m. arranging the furniture, accepted an invitation to spend the night at the place, and occupied a spare bedroom, the window of which was shut. In the morning they could not be aroused. From the position of the bodies, they had evidently been trying to grope their way from the room when overcome by gas fumes. Gas had been escaping from a bracket with two jets, neither of which had been turned off. The hospital authorities stated this morning that the condition of Mrs Morrison waa critical and that of Morrison fair. '
