FORESTRY.
NEW SOCIETY PROPOSED. Preliminary proposals are being brought forward for the formation of a society of forest technicians in New Zealand. A meeting of a special committee was held' in Wellington last Wednesday, comprising Messrs Ellis, Hansson, Poster, Steel, and Smith, of the State Forest Service, and Foweraker, of the Canterbury College School of Forestry. The aims and constitution of the Society were drafted, and will be considered m due course by the charter members. The name suggested for the Society is the New Zealand Forest Institute, and its aims are somewhat on the lines of the American Society of Foresters, and the Canadian Society of Forest Engineers.
