. Mr E. A. Stein and Mr A. L. Brierley have joined the Kokerangu as chief officer and third officer, respectively. Mr H. Ruegg 1b now second officer of the Kaifcangata. Mr B. Allison, third officer of the Kamo, is transferring to the Kanna in a similar capacity, relieving Mr L. P. Bourke for a holiday.
The New Zealand Shipping Company have been notified by cablegram thnt tho Westmoreland .arrived at London on Thursday from Auckland. She sailed from Auckland on October 11th.
Under charter to the Commonwealth and Dominion Line, the steamer Manchester Merchant is to sail from Now York during Decomber with case oil and general cargo for discharge at Auckland, Wellington, Lyttelton, and Dunedin.
The new steamer Kalingo, built for Messrs R. S. Lamb and Co., was launched on the Clyde on October 15th. The vessel is expected at Sydnoy about December next. Her dimensions are: Length 283 ft, breadth 43ft, nnd dopth 19ft 6in. To carry 3150 tons deadweight, the Kalingo will have triplo expansion engines, and should steam ten knots. The vessel will be employed in the trade between Australian and New Zoaland ports. The Corinthic left Wellington yesterday for Napier, to complete loading. She Is due back at Wellington on the following Sunday, solely for embarking her passengers, and will sail the same day for Southampton and London, via Panama.
With a full cargo of case oil, machinery, and general merchandise for discharge at Auckland and Wellington, the Commonwealth and Dominion Line steamer Port Curtis arrived at Auckland on Thursday morning from New York. On her last voyage to New Zealand tire Port Curtis did not go to Auckland, but discharged at 'southern ports. She left New .Plymouth in May for Hull, calling at Durban to pick up a cargo of maize. After discharge she went to Tampico, Mexico, and took o cargo\ of asphalt to New York, where she loaded her present cargo. Her voyage to Auckland was uneventful, fair weather prevailing with--strong southerly winds for the past week. Captain W. B. Enright is in command, with Sir H. T. Datson as chief officer; Mr B. G. Thirlwell, chief engineer; and Mr R. H. Peacock, chief steward. Tho vessel carries four apprentices. At* a meeting of the Thames Harbour Board on November 10th the chairman (Mr J. W. Danby) said that he had been advised that a regular cargo service would shortly be inaugurated between Lyttelton and Thames, Tauranga, and Whangarei.- The saving in freight -rates on the charges paid on the routes used at present would amount to approximately 35s a ton. The departure of the New Zealand Shipping Company's Ruapehu from Auckland for London has been postponed from Thursday to Friday next, 25th inst. VESSELS WITHIN WIRELESS RANGE OF N.Z.
