DANGER OP LEAKAGE. "In view of the fact that excavatiojis have revealed a dangerous quantity of petrol in water under the foundations of a building situated 80 feet from a petrol tank, the Council's Dangerous Goods Inspector be instructed that in future he must immediately order the closing of any tank or any petrol service pipes found to be leaking, until such time as they are repaired to his satisfaction." The above resolution, of which notice had been given, was moved at last night's meeting of -the City Council by Cr. E. It. McCombs. Or. McCombs said it was perfectly evident that such a condition of affairs was unsafe. Samples of the water and petrol had been taken in the instance mentioned, and it was found that the mixture was 50 per cent, petrol, if a lighted match had been thrown into it she was assured tiie consequences would have been very serious. In future the Council should see that every precaution was taken to prevent any danger. Cr. Hunter said the Council should have the petrol station tanks inspected for leakages at least once a year. The Mayor seconded the motion, which was carried.
