NORTH CANTERBURY RACING CLUB. The serious effect the bad weather had on the North Canterbury Racing Club's Labour Day Meeting was disclosed by the balancesheet presented to a meeting of the committee on Friday night. Mr W. Parsons occupied the chair, and the others present were: Messrs A. Howard, J. Mason, J. McMullan, C. M. Archer, J. Kinley, and T. O'Carroll. The receipts for the Meeting amounted to £1989 9s 2d, as compared iwith £3391 16s lid in 1926, while the expenditure was £2319 6s Id, against £2887 lis 2d, leaving a debit balance of £329 16s lid. Following are the more important details, the figures for 1926 being given in parentheses:—Receipts: Totalisator, £l2lO 3s (£2373 19s 6d); gates, £219 3s (£466 10s 8d): race books, £7l Ss 2d (£l2l 6s 9d); privileges, £9O (£80); nominations and acceptances, £399 (£350). Expenditure: Totalisator tax, £7lO 16s 6d (£1274 8s 3d); amusement tax, £33 16s Id (£35 lis Id); stakes, £1330 (£1330); officials, etc., £llO lis (£lO9 19s); printing, advertising, etc.. £Bl 15s (£77 19s). The secretary was instructed to apply to the Minister for Internal Affairs ior the rebate of 11 per cent, of the totalisator turnover (£9102), amounting to £ll3 15s. Accounts amounting to £291 0s 8d were passed for payment. The members of the Ground Committee were deputed to meet a number of owners and trainers who were desirous that the_ club should form an inside track of from oi to 6J furlongs, for training purposes. It was decided to level the ground between the western boundary ol the course and the : horse-boxes for the convenience of motorists entering from Lehman's road. A motion of sympathy was pasted with the -relatives of the late Mr D. Young.
