COUNTY COUNCILS.

CHEVIOT. At the recent meeting of the Chariot County Council there were present: Messrs T. Stevenson (acting-chairman), S. Douglas, \V, L. Foster, and D. McLaren. Apologies for absence were received from Messrs J. H. L. Hiatt, G. L. Rutherford, and A. McGiffert. The clerk reported that receipts for the month amounted to £S9 Ss 9d, making total receipts for the current year to £5940 11b Sd. Total payments were £6173 15s lOd, which left a deficit of £233 4s 2d. The Engineer reported that arrangements had been made with J. Osborn and Co. to take borings on the proposed Conway river bridge. Correspondence from the Main Highways Board regarding registration of motors was read and received. A letter from the Canterbury Progress League regarding an application for an annual subscription was held over until next meeting. Accounts amounting to £720 14s 7d were passed for payment.
