PLEDGES AND POLITICS.
TO THE EDIIOE 0» THB PBJSB. Sir, —I beg to encroach upon your valuable space to the extent of a fewlines to voice a few feelings, which 1 am sure are those of many others, as well as myself, with regard to Prohibition tactics and politics. After what has taken place in the House lately it is evident that the New Zealand "Alliance puts Prohibition before everything, and sane (iovernment can go to the wind. Intimidation of candidates at election time is scandalous, and can only lead to confusion and misrepresentation in the House. A pretty state of affairs Ave are coming to when members have to vote for measures in which they do not believe. The position is ridiculous. The Alliance's policy seems to be to obtain its object at all costs, oven to supporting the Reds, be they dry. After such an exhibition of methods, my vote, which was "dry," has turned "wet," and I am sure many others will also.—Yours, etc., NO PLEDGES.
