DISSATISFACTION EXPRESSED

Expressing dissatisfaction at the limit of one day put upon the visit of Mr L. S. Araery, Secretary of State for the Dominions, to Christchurch at the end of the month, members of the executive committee in charge of the arrangements of welcome and entertainment of the distinguished visitor, decided at yesterday afternoon's meeting to ask "the local members of Parliament to ask a question in the House. . ~ "Whv are we getting only one paltry dav?" asked Mr E. H. Marriner. ; 'Ah. you must, recognise the North Island's'dominance," said 31 r J. A. Flesher sarcastically. "The further south they go the shorter becomes the stay/' said Mr Marriner. "Dunedin, I believe, is getting onlv half a day.'' A member: Invercargill gets nothing at. all. The Mayor (Mr J. K. Archer), who was in the chair: We have made a protest. Mr TV E. Leadley: Will it be mentioned in the Bouse? It is always the Dr. E. Levinge: We should make a strong protest to the Prime Minister. The chairman: TVe could ask Mr Sullivan. M.P., to place the matter before the South Island Committee. Members agreed to request that a question be asked in the House. THE CHRISTCHURCH ARRANGEMENTS. The executive committee which is in charge of the arrangements of welcoming and entertaining Mr L. S. Amery, Secretary of State for the Dominions, who will arrive in the. City on November 30th. met yesterday afternoon and discussed final details. The Mayor, Mr J. K. Archer, was in the chair, and others present were: Mrs 0. Chilton. Messrs J. D. Hall, E. H. Marriner. TV. E. Leadley, J. A, Flesher, TV. Bottrell, Dr. E. Levinge. and P. R. Climie (secretary). The following programme, which has been approved by Mr Amery, was adopted: Morning—Visit various scholastic institutions. Members of Mr Amery's staff to inspect the Woolston Tanneries and Davis's Glue and Gelatine Works. 12 noon—Civic reception. 1 p.m. —Citizens' luncheon in the Art Gallery. 2.30 p.m.—Mr Amery to attend meeting of farmers in the City Council Chambers. 3 p.m.—Mrs Amery to attend garden party at home of Mrs Deans, Riccarton. Mr Amery to follow at conclusion of farmers' meeting. 6 p.m.—Dinner to be given by. Royal Colonial Institute. • • 7 p.m.—Mr Amery to meet ex-Im-perial soldiers and to open a Christmas fair at Returned! Soldiers' Club rooms. 8 p.m.—Public, address in the Theatre Royal. -It was decided that the executive should meet Mr Amery and party at the Christchurch railway station on the arrival of the ferry train. Mr H. D. Acland and the chairman were appointed to draw up a.list of the scholastic institutions to be visited, and it was reported that the tickets for the citizens' luncheon would be limited to 300.
