BODY IDENTIFIED.

VERDICT OF SUICIDE. The body of the man found shot at the top of the Zig-zag, at Lyttelton, on Thursday evening was identified yesterday as that of Donald Morrison Brown, grocer's assistant, of 290 Madras street, and an inquest was held by Mr H. A. Young, Coroner, yesterday afternoon. Gladys Emily Brown gave evidence that the body was that of her husband, whom she had last seen alive on Tuesday morning, when he left th-j house to go out and purchase a loaf of bread. Her husband had been a grocer's assistant at the New Zealand Farmers' Co-op., but left that employment on October 2oth. Since then he had been unemployed, and had visited his brother in Oamaru. He returned on Monday. He had been very depressed since an illness he had about two years ago, and seemed worried over losing his employment. Ho had never mentioned suicide. Witness' had not seen the revolver berore and had no idea where her husband had obtained it. Evidence of identification was also given by James Andars#n, retired farmer, of Kauri street, Riccarton. Witness said that Mr and Mrs Brown had often visited witness and his wife. He last saw Brown about sis weeks ago. Constable W. J. Irwin 6aid he found the body lying in the tussocks on the edge of the road. There was a bullet wound in the head, and the revolver was lying close to Brown's right hand. A verdict was returned that Brown had committed suicide at Lyttelton on November loth, by shooting himself.
