SCHOOL SPORTS.

NORTH CANTERBURY DISTRICT.

The fifth annual sports of the public schools north of the Waimakariri were held yesterday at Kaiapoi Park. Excellent weather prevailed in the morning, but after luncheon rain fell, making the proceedings rather UDpleasant. The schools, as übubl, were divided into three grades—A for schools with over 120 pupils, B for those having 65 to 12u, and C for schools with a roll of less than 65. Some close finishes were witnessed, and the rivalry among the various schools was very keen, competitors in each event being cheered by parents and schoolmates. Of the 46 schools in the area, 28 were represented, and the competitors numbered over 1000. The arrangements were very complete, and the programme was well organised. The secretarial duties were carried out by Mr A. R. Chamberlain, of Rangiora, and the teachers of the competing schools assisted in carrying through the events. In addition to the prizes for the winners of each event, several trophies were competed for. Tha champion school in each of the three »ections were: A GRADE. roints.
