COUNTY COUNCILS.

HEATHCOTE. The Heathcote County Council met last night. Present: Mr C. Flavell (chairman), and Crs. J. H. Moore, W. Kerr, J. F. Scott, J. h. Danks, and W. W. Scarff. An apology was made for Cr. B. Riley. The resolution concerning the purchase of transformers for Cashmere arrived at by the Council at its previous meeting was rescinded on the motion o£ Cr. Danks, seconded by Cr. Scarff. . It was decided to apply to the Local Bodies Loans Board for sanction to borrow £7OOO for the Avon and Bromley ridings, lor a period of 20 years, and £SOOO for Cashmere riding for a period of 15 years, for reconstructing and extending the present electric -lines. Regarding the offer of the Public Works Department of a subsidy of £ for £ up to £776 on work on Canal reserve, it was decided to advise the City Council that the county could not undertake the expenditure of £B2l involved. The Aranui Burgesses' Association b invitation to members to meet the Association to discuss matters of common interest was accepted, provided sufficient notice of the Association's meeting was received. It was decided to reply to the samo Association. (1) That attention would be given to request regarding fixing the correct levels of certain roads; (2) that enquiries would be made regarding the reopening of a waterway at Breezes road extension; (3) that the clerk supply information regarding sanitary service. ' The Canterbury Automobile Association's vote of £25 towards the cost of tar-sealing Wainoni road was received with thanks. The Mt. Pleasant Burgesses' Association wrote expressing appreciation of alterations made in the electric services, which had been considerably improved. A subdivision on Cuff's road was approved. Mr F. \V. Freeman wrote giving an estimate of £2020 for the proposed extension of Valley road, and £525 for 18in storm-water sewer from Mr Marsh's corner. Received. The chairman and Crs. Scarff and Danks were asked lo draw up specifications for a stone-crusher for the" Cashmere riding, and also for power to drive it. Tenders were accepted as follows: —Two electric stoves, Turnbull and Jones, £33 6s each; washing machine, E. Eeece and Son, £4O 7s 6d; footpath, Opawa road, about 40 chains, Smart and Sons, £217. On the motion of Cr. Kerr, it was decided to draw the attention of the City Council to the condition of Kerr's road (a boundary road), and ask that work be started as soon as possible. Similar action was decided in respect of Ruru road. Respecting Kerr's road, it was stated that recently two springs of a motor-lorry using the road were broken. It was decided that the houses in Kerr's and Wainoni roads be numbered. The electrician was instructed to prepare tests of the wire, poles, insulators, etc., required in connexion with the Avon-Bromley and Cashmere electricity loans, to save time in the ovent of the polls being carried.
