Following the tradition of royal fountains of the past, but built to skyscraper scale, the Clarence Buckingham Memorial fountain, in the centre of Chicago, is valued at £150,000. It is so large that its liquid torrents and cascades pour 1400 gallons of water every minute when at full play. The system of lights is borrowed from the theatre, bringing into play dimmers which allow many shades and blendpigs..
