PETROL TAX REVENUE.
4~ SOUTH ISLAND'S SHARE. (FXI3S ASfIOCUTIO* MLSOJUU.) DUNEDIN, November 18. "Failing a satisfactory reply from the Government wiih regard to our demands that the petrol tax should be allocated on the aame basis as the tyre tax, a public meeting will bo held and a united protest made by the motor associations, Chambers of Commerce, and other interested bodies including the Otago Expansion I/eague against the intolerable position," said Mr Ansell, president of the South Island Motor Union. Mr Ansell added: "We have had many,fights in our roading problems, and are continually up against a brick wall. This latest Act of the Government is probably the worst ever put across us by the present Government. We are determined that we will not tolerate it. The counties in the South Island* are entitled to receive from the motorists subsidies in accordance with their usage of the road."
