TELEGRAPH OFFICE HOLIDAYS.

CHRISTMAS AND NEW YEAR.

(PBSSS ASSOCIATION TELEGBAM.)

WELLINGTON, November 17,

The present intention of the Telegraph Department is to observe December 26th as Christmas Day, and the 27th as Boxing Day. This will mean that on the Monday only a small number of telegraph offices will be open at all, and even those merely from 5 to 5.30 .p.m. On the Tuesdayordinary holiday hours will be observed. As a large number of race meetings, and at. least one very important athletic fixture and other functions, are' set down for the 26th, it was obviously expected that this would be celebrated as Boxing Day. The Telegraph Department's action will clash with these fixtures, and unless an alteration is made by one or the other it will be impossible for the newspapers to publish the reports that will be expected. The Department proposes to observe Monday. January 2nd, as New Year's Day. There, again, only holiday hours will be followed, and this will greatly interfere with the publication of race results, etc.
