Professor liankine Brown, of Wellington, is visiting Christehurch and is at the Clarendon Hotel.
Guests at the Clarendon Hotel include Messrs J. Langridge (Auckland), A., McFadyen (Timaru), W. Gibb (Timaru), and F. Johnston (Dunedin). Messrs F. August (Sydney), P. M. Stimore (Melbourne), J. C. Cashmore (Adelaide), and A. Nihotte (Wellington), are at Warner's Hotel.
The Presbyterian General Asembly yesterday offered congratulations to the Rev. Hector Maclean on his appointment to the Chair of Hebrew, at Ormond College, Melbourne.
Recent arrivals at the United Service Hotel include: Messrs A. H. Greenwood (Greymouth), W. M. Adams (Blenheim), B. R. Macdonald (Geraldine), W. Hammond (Invercargill), C. Walker (Westport), and C. Wilbur (Nelson). Commander J. R. Middleton, D.S.O. R.N., has been appointed Director or' Naval Reserves, with headquarters at Wellington. For the past three years he has been commander of the Auckland division of the Royal Naval Reserve.—Press Service.
At the Presbyterian General Assembly yesterday a motion was passed heartily congratulating tlie Rev. Oscar Michel'sen on the approaching jubilee of his appointment as a missionary to tile New Hebrides. Mr Michelsen landed at Aneityum on April 21st 1878; in June of 1879 he was appointed to Tonga by the Mission Synod. In 1025 lie returned to New Zealand with the intention of retiring, but, finding there was no qualified . missionary available to succeed him, returned in 1926 to hold the field until a successor could be appointed.
