GENERAL NEWS. I J The Harbour Board's dredge No. 300, which has been at Port Chalmers undergoing repairs, is expected to return to Oamaru about the end of the month- She will probably resume operations here towards the end of the year. The yield from a crop of Moose linseed threshed by Mr L. 0 'Loughlin, of St. Andrews, on Wednesday, was a little over three-quarters of a ton per acre. A party of Timaru anglers who spent some time at Lake Alexandrina returned with a tine catch. With one exception, the fish were rainbow trout, the bag ' including some eight and nine pounders. It is reported that there iias been a good deal of activity in the sheep market, lambs and ewes being sold at prices round about 17s per head, all counted. The first South Canterbury wool sale for the season will take place here oil December I.3th. Girl Injured. alma Howey, a girl aged six years, was admitted to Sister Shank's private hospital on Wednesday suffering from a fractured skull as the result of being knocked down by a motor-cycle in Waiiti road. An operation was performed, and it was reported last evening that she was progressing satisfactorily, although her condition was still serious. Rose Day. The day set aside by the Royal Xew Zealand Society for the Health of Women and Chldren will be held here today by the local branch of the Society, to raise funds for the carrying on of the work. fowling. Twenty-four men from the lists of the unemployed here left for Mount Cook yesterday, where they will be engaged on a Public Works contract to improve the road to the Ball Hut. Bowling. At a special meeting o£ the South Canterbury Bowling Centre last night, a motion, notice of which had previously been given by Mr R. S. JCicliol, to the'effect that the resolution' giving tho Centre 'power to redraft teams where, in the opinion of the selectors, it is deemed necessary, be rescinded, waa lost by six votes to four. The Waimate Club wrote stating that Mr W. F. Morrison had been appointed to represent it on the Centre. It was decided that the question of the alteration of the Sidey pairs be referred to the Match Committee. FAIRLIE. ■At a -recent meeting of the Fairlie, Branch of the Farmers' Union, the-fol-lowing motion in reference to wool packs was passed in owing to wool packs being under weight (in some cases) last season. The Farmers' tlnion asks woolgrowers to insist on full weight packs when delivered to them." A meeting of the committee of the Mackenzie County Fallen Soldiers' Memorial was held in the Council Chamber on Monday. Mr C. J. Talbot (chairman), presided. Mr Talbot ' reported that the inspectors would be visiting Fairlie shortly to inspect the site in the Main street for the proposed memorial. The amount of subscriptions received since last meeting, though satisfactory, were still short of the amount required. It was decided that a further appeal be made to -those who had promised, asking for an early payment, as it was desired to have the work of erecting the memorial gone on with. The committee decided not to go on with the work until the full amount required was in hand.
