GRAND THEATRE. "Ben Hur'' has kept popular in the English-speaking worH while other works have flashed across the sky of letters and be tin lojjg forgotten. "When the new Senator, Valerius Gratus, is beme; welcomed to Jerusalem, and as he makes his triumphal v.a.crowded streets, a tile from an over* hanging roof falls from the palace ox Juda'i, Prince 0?" Hur, iund strikes his head. That the occurrence was an accident was an explanation which carries no weight with the Romans, and Ben Hur was sent to the galleys for life, and his mother and sister to the hideous dungeon of Antonio. A fine prologue introduces the story proper, Mr David McGill singing "The Star 01 Bethlehem." The Grand Orchestra, epeciallv augmented for the season, interprets a musical score written for the picture, and a. quartet sings "Abide with ile" during toe Crucifixion Ecenes.
