ENGLISH PARK STADIUM.
SATURDAY NIGHT'S SPORTS
Tatrons at English Park Stadium will have an opportunity of experiencing a night of thrills on Saturday, when six first-class riders, including Willie Mackic, will try conclusions in a motor-paced handicap race of three miles. Crouched low on their specially built pacing cycles, these riders will tear along at a speed approaching forty miles per hour, closely following the motorcycles, which will bo under the control of experienced riders. The racing, besides being oxtremely exciting, will be perfectly safe for all concerned owing •to tho special precautions which have been taken by adopting an American scheme for safeguarding the contestants. Two heats of three miles each will be held on Saturday night, and tho final will bo run over five miles the following week. Last year Mackie defeated all and sundry, and on Saturday will concede starts up to 300 yds. He will have to excel himself to defeat riders of the calibre of Bearman, Henderson, Weir, Austin, and Condon. An immense amount, of interest is being taken in the race, and it is anticipated that there will be a record crowd at the Stadium.
A splendid programme of cycling and running will also be presented, including a two mile scratch race for first-class riders. George Getson will make his appearance in the SSOyds flat handicap. The racing will commence at 8 o'clock.
