W.C.T.U.

NORTH BRIGHTON BRANCH. The meeting of tho North Brighton W.C.T.U. was held in the Baptist Church on Tuesday afternoon. Miss B. M. Earband presided. An appeal was received from the Willard Home, and it was decided to vote £2 2s. Miss Henderson forwarded report sheets for the various departments of work, and these were distributed to the Superintendents of departments. Campaign cards were received from the New Zealand Alliance, and the self-denial appeal explained. Tho appointment of a treasurer to take'charge of these funds was deferred till later. A letter was received from Mr W. Lee Martin, M.P., thanking tho Union for its congratulations on his election. It was reported tho Sunday November 27th should be observed as temperance Sunday, and that the various organisations in New Brighton would assomblo at tho Pier at 10.40 a.m. and proceed to tho Presbyterian Church. The secretary was askod to extend an invitation to the North Brighton United Band of Hope to attend this service. It was decided to hold a cradle roll afternoon in the Itawhiti Domain on December 3rd, and a social evening to the new members during December. The reports of tho secretary and the treasurer were adopted, the membership showing at -12. Votes of thanks were passed to the secretary and the treasurer. Reports were read from the Cradle 8011, White Ribbon, Press, Legal, and Parliamentary, Devotional, Philanthropic, and Young People's Departments. The following officers wero elected:—President, Miss B. M. Harband; vice-presidents, Mesdames Leaver and Beaton; secretary, Mrs R. Parker; treasurer, Mrs J. F. Eames; Cradle Roll Superintendent, Mrs N. McGillivray; press reporter, Mrs Leaver; White Ribbon agent, Mrs A. Henry; "Y" superintendent, Mrs Leaver; legal and Parliamentary department, Mrs Thompson; devotional, Mrs C. Dixon.
