CARGO LOSSES.
NUMBER OF CREW ARRESTED. (BY CABLE—PBESS ASSOCIATION— COPYRIGHT.) (AUSTRALIAN AND N.Z. CABLE ASSOCIATION.) (Received November 15th, 5.5 p.m.) LONDON, November 15. Twenty-seven of the crew of the Peninsular steamer Barrima were arrested on arrival in the Thames. They will appear at the Police Court to-day on charges relating to cargo losses during the voyage to Melbourne. The captain wirelessed to London, in response to which the police chartered a tender, which met the Barrima with eight detectives, and removed the ae-f fused men before the docking of the vessel.
It was gathered that the captain was in a dilemma after the discovery, knowing that if the men were arrested at Melbourne the vessel would be unable to leave with a full crew; therefore', it was arranged that the men should sign on to return, not knowing the charge against them.
