Mr and Mrs Frfd Dennehy ■'Greymouth), who have been visiting Christchurch, are leaving for the West Coast to-day, Mrs H. C. D. van Asch (Bealey avenue) is- leaving nest week for a visit to Australia. Mrs G\ C. Davis (Avonsido) left last night for a few weeks' visit to Auckland. Mr and Mrs J. WV Fair tTimaiu), who have been spending a few weeks in Christchurch, are returning south today. Miss Isabel Turrell is spending a week with friends in Wellington.
Miss Ruth Wynn-Williams (Cashmere Hills) is leaving to-morrow to stay with Miss Hilda Montgomery (Little River). Miss Maisie White (Hastings), who has "been spending a few weeks in Christchurch, left for the north last night.
Miss Molly Morpeth (Wellington), who is staying with Miss Helen Rich (Cashemre "Hills), is leaving this week for a visit to the West Coast.
Mr and Mrs Long and family (Striven road, Riccarton) are leaving this week for Wellington, where they will reside.
Mr and Mrs W. P. Tozer and family, who haive been S'pending Carnival Week with Mr and Mrs A. J. McLaughlin (Burwood), have motored back to Mungati. Mr and Mrs 11. Y. Widdowson (Cashmere Hills) left yesterday for Blenheim. Mrs M. E. Murray (Toronto, N.S.W\), Miss S. Watt (Newcastle, N.S.W.), are staying at the Royal Hotel. The Home Economics Association is holding a Schools' needlework display in the Y.M.C.A. on Friday next. The display includes work from the primary schools, the Technical College, and the Art School. The work will be on view during the afternoon and evening. Besides gaining prizes, the school gaining most marks will hold the trophy for a year. Last year Shirley School was the winner. At the residence of her daughter, Mrs T. Turton, Slater street, Christchurch, there passed away recently in her 84th year, Mrs G. Griffiths, late of Hororata. She was born in Leicester, England, and came to New Zealand with her parents, Mr and Mrs Ward, in the ship, Lady Nugent, landing at Lyttelton in the year 1851. During the first few years in New Zerland she lived with her parents at Lincoln road, Christchurch. W r hile there, she married, and in 18&4 came with her husband and parents to reside at Hororata, her father Mr AVard, being one of the first who took up land in the district. Her husband predeceased her 31 years ago. She leaves one son, Mr Frank Griffiths (Sydney), and six daughters, Mrs Thompson (Te Aroha), Mrs Mangin (Pahiatua), Mrs Graham (Hastings), Mrs '/litchell (Palmerston North), Mrs Lewer (Spreydon), and Mrs Turton (Christchurch. The funeral took place at the Hororata cemetery, the Rev. H. N. Roberts conducting the service. Messrs T. Turton, D. Dunstan, G. Lewer, and A. Griffiths were the pallbearers. Many messages of sympathy were received, and the following sent floral tributes: —Bob, Annie and family, Will, Alice, and family, Rose, husband and grandson, Bob, Hettie, and family, Ted Low and Mar j one, Walter, Laura, and family, Frank, Kitty and family, Mr and Mrs J. Rollinson, Mrs Tannant, Mrs Duncan, and Nelson family. JAPANESE FAIR. This year the parishioners of Phillipstown have decided to make their annual effort for the parish redolent of the Lord of the Lotus. Ladies clad in bright kimonas and coloured sashes, with umbrella and fans, will serve from their varied stalls, which will be nrbours of lavender, wistaria, and attractive cherry blossom. On Thursday and Friday, November 24th and 25th, they_ will exhibit their wares, which
irill include articles for young and old, j ornamental and useful. Tea may be ! supplied from cups provided by dainty siesha on tables decorated with chrysanthemum, the national flower. There will be many competitions, including a baby show. The Mayor has kindly consented to open the Fair at 2.30 p.m., in the Art Gallery. The Christchurch Merrymakers will assist each evening. Cats are subject to comparatively few diseases, and fewer still of these are contagious.
