ARBITRATION BILL.
COMMITTEE'S HEARING CONCLUDED. [THE PEESS Special Service.] WELLINGTON, November 15. The hearing of evidence by the Labour Bills Committee on the Industrial Conciliation and Arbitration Amendment Bill having concluded, the report of the Committee is expected to be submitted to the House before the end of the week. During the enquiry the Committee held fifteen meetings, and 43 witnesses were examined. It is stated in the lobbies that even if other parts of the measure have to be abandoned when the Bill is considered by the House, the country members are determined to use every effort to have passed into law the provision which seeks to exempt the farming industry from the operations of the Arbitration Act.
There is a very strong feeling in regard to the alleged rapprochement between the Employers' Federation . and the Alliance of Labour, and it is stated that one North Island Employers' Association is likely to secede.
At a conference of master bakers the following resolution was carried: "That this meeting representative of the baking trade of New Zealand desires to place on record its disapproval of the preference clause under the Arbitration Act and urges its removal."
