COUNTY COUNCILS.

PAPARUA. Cv. James Leslie presided over' the last meeting of the Paparua County Council. The secretary of the Ellesmcre Lands Drainage Board advised that his Board could not pay anythiug towards the cost of renewing a culvert at Tai Tapu. After hearing Mr Martin's opinioa, it was decided to inform the Board thit the culvert was their properly, and that when the stream was blocked by the crumbling stone the whole of the renewal cost would 'be a charge on tho funds of the Drainage Board.. Tenders for the purchase of the house at Prebbleton and also for the bluegums at Rolleston were opened, but were not considered satisfactory

The water-race overseer reported that interference had taken place with the main water-race through the Templcton Domain. It was decided to place the matter in the hands of the police, and also to solicit the co-opera-tion of the Domains Board with a view to : the abatement of the nuisance. There had | been three floods in the river during the month, and the supply had consequently been irregular at times. The position at tho lower intake had, however, been improved by the recent floods. General race cleaning was almost complete, and the men would then be put on to do the race-cleaning of those landowners who had failed to clean their own races. The statement of the Minister for Public Works van discussed, and satisfaction was expressed that the Minister had adopted the idea first put forward by this Council, viz., that those roads leading into large centres should receive some special treatment to compensate for all the converging traffic. RANGIORA. The monthly meeting of (.he Eangiora County Council wa« held yesterday. Pressnt: Crs. W. Stalker (chairman), H. Tallott, A. Mcintosh, G. K. Cryaell, and E. MacDonald.

Tho electrical engineer, in his report, said JIG hours of his time wm put in in the county and 72 hours in Rangiora borough, and of the men's time 62 hours were taken up in the county and. 118 in the borough. Eight new poles had been erected in Moyna's road and Barkers to replace defective onee. A report from the Progress League on the recent, traffic census was received. It was decided to procure a small quantity of luminous paint, for trial purposes. Several tenders were received for dog collars, and that of Mr A J. Parris at B*d per collar was accepted. Messrs Johnston, Mills, and White forwarded deed of agreement between the ..North Canterbury Power Board and the county for execution. On the motion of Cr. ! Tallott and seconded by Cr. Mcintosh, it was decided that the agreement be • executed. Cr. Tallot's. action in having the track to the sports ground at Cust graded was approved.

On the motion of Cr. Mcintosh, ,it was decided that should any written complaints bo received regarding wandering stock on tho roads, the chairman and the clerk deal with them.
