FOOTBALL.
CANTERBURY RUGBY UNION. MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE. A meeting of the Management Committee of the Canterbury Kugby Union was held last night. Present: Messrs A. E. McPhail (in the chair), A. Barrett, A. Dnggan, W. Britten, J. St. J. Dunne, A. E. Flower, B. H. Worth, J. K. Moloney, and W. Maxwell. The St. John Ambulance Brigade wrote thenking the Union for its donation. The Otago Union w/oto asking if the Canterbury Union intended to do anything in connexion with nominating a manager of tho team to tour South Africa. With reference to tho Eatne matter, a letter was received from the Taranaki Union, suggesting that the question of appointing a manager be dealt with at & general meeting of delegates, or by postal ballot. On the motion of Mr Moloney, it was decided that the letters be dealt with in committee. The Manawhenua Union wrote requesting that its name be engraved on the Ranfurly Shield, and that the account be forwarded. It had written to Wairarapa, and a similar request would 'probably be received from that Union. It was decided to carry out the request. The Finance Committee reported that it could not see its way clear to make a grant to an injured Technical College junior player, as he was registered according to the rules. The New Zealand Union had written that it would be unable to make the loan to the Union, owing to the lack of funds. The report _ was adopted, and it was decided to write asking the New Zealand Union for any assistance it was able to give.
