DRAINAGE BOARD.
RETICULATION TENDERS ACCEPTED. Tho Drainnpe Board met last night. Present: Messrs H. J. Otley (chairman). S. C. Bingham, J. W. Beanland, W. R. Carev, Chap. Hill. W. C. Large, C. S. McCully, A. T. £mith. H. G. Livingstone, and W. J. Walter. Apologies were received from Messrs E. H. S. Hamilton and H. Hill. Works Committee. The Works Committee reported having appointed the Board's Engineer assessor in connexion with tho allocation of the cost of subsoil drains. Regarding Pannell's subdivision, the sub-dividor had been informed that it would be necessary for him to lay sewers in the streets constructed in tho subdivision. The Waimairi County Council had advised that it would complete the work of reopening the Beach road drain before the end of this month. The license of one of the Board's licensed drainlayers had been suspended. The report was adopted. Tenders Accepted. The following tenders were accepted:— Reticulation of Area 24F, Fendalton: Thos. Pheloung, £23,374 10s subject to the deduction of £436 if the Waimairi County Council decide to take over and complete the road after the trench has been filled in. Wilderness drain deepening: J. Stanish, £1297 19s 4d. Reticulation of Area 248, Addington portion of Riccarton: Alan Moore, £4745 3s 2d. Loan Works. The Engineer (Mr Jas. Cullens) reported that good progress had been maintained on all loan works. No. 6B Area, St. Albans, was completed, and No. 24 C Area, Riccarton, was practically finished. The septic tank was completed, and an inspection made on October 21st: the sewage was turned in tho following day. Mr H. Pickles, plumbing and drainage inspector, appointed at the Board's previous meeting, took up his duties on the first of this month. The report was reserved. Miscellaneous.
Kegarding the metalling of Harrison street, it was decided to pay one-half the cost, the Tramwnv Board paying the other half. Mr Walter referred to the silting up of the upper part of Dudley croek, and said it ■vva.i interfering with the drainage of a part of St. Albans, the water backing up on farm lands. The chairman of the Work 3 Committee and the Engineer were asked to inspect, and were given power to take the action they considered necessary. . It was decided to call for applications Jor the position of chief inspector, owing to the resignation of Mr T. Tomlins'on.
