The Royal Air Force Cross has been bestowed on Lieutenant Bentley, of the South African Air Force, in recognition of the distinguished service rendered to aviation by his recent flight in a light aeroplane from England to Capetown. Sir Samuel Hoare (Air Minister) and a party of Air Ministry technical experts will make an exhaustive test of & new Handley-Page automatic slotted wing device at Cricklewood on Friday next. The slotted wing device, in its present form renders it practically impossible for an aeroplane to stall, which is the most prevalent cause of disaster.

In its original form some years ago it was operated at will, but the latest development makes it automatic. Aeronautical experts consider it to be the most important step forward made in aeronautical design since the war.
